This residence for seniors especially with cognitive issues is a wonderful place. The staff is always caring and attentive to each person needs. The owners and staff are on top of any issues that arise with my mother which is very comforting. Always welcoming and inviting.

I highly commend Sheppard and James fir their professionalism and commitment to providing a safe, warm and caring environment for their residents. Their amazing staff is fully engaged, compassionate and very kind and are a credit to their profession. We, as family were always welcomed as well and had peace of mind knowing our mom was well looked after.
As an anecdote, when our mom once was driven to the hospital via ambulance, the paramedics were commenting about the cleanliness and how well organized the staff were. We couldn't say enough positive things about Sheppard and James.

My sister and I placed our Mom at the Residence in December 2022. We are both very pleased with the Residence. The staff is always friendly and attentive and most importantly very respectful to not only my sister and I, but of course most importantly to our precious Mom. Every time my sister and I visit and leave the residence, we do so with great piece of mind that our Mom is being extremely well taken care of. The residence’s owner Karen and her son Shaheed are always available to answer and tend to any of our queries and concerns about our Mom. Sheppard and James is A-1 in every way.

I hate writing reviews, but I had to share with others what I observed while visiting mother.

Where you decide to place your mother is your choice.

Be very careful about these 5 stars reviews. Do not be fooled, I was by these reviews.
People write these reviews to please the owner, because they have no other place to put their mother and worry for their mother's well-being while at the Residence.

My mother has dementia and did not speak any English or French, the owner assured me, his staff is very well trained and could care for my mother.

Four months into the lease, my mother suffered a badly bruised left palm under their care, I reported the incident and soon after the owners wanted to end my mother's lease. Because, I made the resident look bad.

If I had a chance to go back in time, knowing what I learnt about the Residence. I would never had placed my mother in the Residence.

I told the owner everything about my mother. In my observation, the owner never did a proper evaluation of my mother's needs. Therefore, my mother did NOT receive the proper care while at the Residence.

I visit my mother almost every day, and spend a good 3 to 5 hours with my mother. I saw what went on at the Residence.

The owner was someone that talks the talks but does not walk the walk, and does NOT speak the truth.

The owner tried several times to terminate the lease with my mother, because I when public to the Ombudsman with several mistreatment (bruises, falling, being grab, pulled, etc.) of my mother at the Residence.
This is what the owner suggested in the Ombudsman report:
"If I was concerned for my mother's safety and not satisfied with the Resident. I am welcome to explore other Residences.".
If you care about your mother maybe you should take the owner's advise.
Also, in the report "The owner denies ever mentioning any lease termination or expulsion."
In fact, one month before my mother's lease was to expire, the owner e-mailed me a letter with the intention of ending my mother's lease.

These owners likes to make up their own rules, not the follow the guidelines established by the Regie du Logement (TAL).

The owner outline in the contract the each year the rent will increase automatically. This goes against the rules established by TAL, the tenant must be given three months notice and has the right to refuse any rent increase that is not justifiable by the owner.

Sadly, my mother did not receive the proper dental care at the Residence.
One time we could not find her dentures. Later they were found underneath her bed. Who knows, how many time, she went to bed with her dentures on or her teeth not brushed at night.
The poor dental care my mother received at the Resident resulted in an infection that required having the four remaining bottom teeth removed. It was preventable if the staff had properly assisted my mother in brushing her teeth.
The owner refused to reimburse my mother for the dental cost in the hundreds. The owner said "I am responsible for her care, but I am not responsible for her medical expenses".
The owner should be held accountable for the care any Senior receives at the Residence.

Residence Sheppard and James is a compassionate and welcoming home. They truly take the well being and care of the seniors into consideration. Each time I come to visit, I’m greeted with kindness. This is a place I would recommend to anyone looking to place their loved ones.

I highly recommend Sheppard and James Care Home for anyone considering care for their loved ones. The small, family-like atmosphere was incredibly conducive for my mother. Shahied and his mother, Karin, were very down-to-earth and worked hard with the team to support mom.

Due to some complicated dynamics between myself and my sibling, Shahied was very gracious in trying to mediate communication between us to support the situation.

My mother's level of dementia was quite advanced, and the team at Sheppard and James did everything they could to support her stay there for as long as possible.

Unfortunately, due to her decline and mobility issues, we had to seek out more advanced care for her at a CHSLD. While the CHSLD were supportive in their own way, the institutional nature of the CHSLD ultimately did not work for my mother either, and she passed away within three months.

Sheppard and James provided a level of personalized care that was appropriate, and I would highly recommend the residence to anyone.
