Rosemary Heights Seniors Village - Surrey, British Columbia

I had a chance to work on some projects with Rosemary Heights and really got to know the staff and tour the location. These guys absolutely care about their residents and work tirelessly to serve them. My parents are too young to think about Senior Villages but I wouldn't hesitate to make Rosemary Heights one of the top options once they reach that age.

My uncle loves it there. He likes that he doesn't have to cook. The meals are hot and tasty, the home is very clean and the staff and people living there are very friendly. He calls it a 5 star hotel. Christian has been great and on top of all our questions and getting the place ready for him. The staff are super friendly and are in top of issues and problems. Move in was smooth and easy.

I won't say much regarding staff. But the outside is typical... Canadian Healthcare.

Light posts along the sidewalks have been malfunctioning for a long while. Also mismatched.

Landscaping is subpar.

Their "garden" is no longer a proper garden. See photo.

It's a shame... real shame... I feel sorry for the residents there. My neighbour took their father out asap.

My Mom was in Rosemary Heights seniors village for over 4 years, until her passing. I found the staff to be, for the most part, quite caring. The premise itself is bright and clean, food is really quite good. Negatives are lack of staff, not much time spent with residents, except for care, lack of stimulation, inadequate recreation programs, small tv that no can see. Family members really need to participate in care as much as they are able. This will ensure a better quality of life.

Our father had been in Royal Columbian Hospital for over three months when he was transferred to the Extended Care Unit at Rosemary Heights Senior Village. We were immediately struck by the warm welcome our father received from the administration and staff. They were attentive, professional and genuinely caring.

The facility itself is lovely – new-ish, well maintained, an inviting lobby, wide hallways, high ceilings, quality finishings and common areas that feel very homey and inviting. The dining room is spacious and has a very large outdoor deck where residents enjoy BBQ meals in the summer!

The staff seem very happy and even grateful to work there; the care aide assigned to our father said she had been an employee for 14 years and believed it was one of the best care homes in BC! I was impressed by how much she had picked up in a short time with regards to dad's medical history. The personalized care she provided him was on point and administered with care and compassion. Our father was not always easy to deal with, but the staff’s positive attitude and sense of humour had a calming effect on him.

When our dad was placed at Rosemary Heights, we had a real concern that our parents were now separated, with our mom living in New West in their home and our dad now in Surrey, destined to live out their final days without each other by their sides. I wondered if there was any way they could be reunited?

So, I called up Ron, the general Manager, and asked if there was any way our mother could be placed in the Assisted Living side of Rosemary Heights. He informed me that yes, indeed, RH did have a family reunification policy! Ron definitely went the extra mile to find accommodation for our mom. Within a week, mom was moved into a beautiful, bright and well laid-out one bedroom, assisted living apartment at Rosemary Heights -- complete with a kitchenette, large bathroom, 3 big closets, cablevision, internet, her own landline and a view of the North Shore mountains!

Our mother’s quick placement turned out to be a godsend: she was able to be with our father at his bedside as passed away just 4 days after she arrived(!) Had she not been resident at RH, she would not have been there at the moment of his passing, and thus her greatest fear was averted.

Four months later, our mother is now thriving. She loves having her own apartment where she can have her things with her. She goes down to the dining room 3 times a day for meals that she very much enjoys and has made many new friends. There is a wide variety of activities offered that she participates in, from exercise classes and shopping excursions to events like in-house concerts and fashion shows!

Our mother has her medication delivered and witnessed twice daily – a very important service as her memory is not what it used to be. It is reassuring for me to know that whenever I have an inquiry, Emmanuel, Ron or Christian can be counted on to actually pick up and answer their phones immediately!

Most importantly, the certain knowledge that all our mother’s needs are being well met -- physical, mental, social and spiritual – provides her, and our family, with much-needed peace of mind.

Thank you to the staff and administration for all you do that we know, and all you do that we don’t know, for our beloved seniors. You’re doing really great work!

As soon as we entered the door of Rosemary Heights Seniors Village we knew this was the perfect place for our dear friends next chapter. Friendly, kind, warm atmosphere, with luxurious finishes makes this a five star property. We had looked at many places and none compared. Christian Bunz the Marketing Manager has such empathy, and we cannot thank him and Emmanuel enough for ensuring that our friend will be happy, comfortable and in a safe environment.

Poor communication from staff to families. Recreation programs are poor. When my grandmother fell and pushed the alarm bell, the staff member arrived and told her to get up on her own as the staff member watched. Management was informed and nothing was done. On another occasion someone from management told my grandmother that her son is "a bad son". This was obviously hurtful for my grandmother to hear and uncalled for. On another occasion, she was warned by management that if she burnt toast again, she would be kicked out on the street. She was afraid to use her toaster again. In addition to this, her engagement ring went missing, despite it barely fitting over her knuckle, and was never found. I gave one star as I'm sure there were some good staff members there.
